Gold
Yesterday when I went out to Mom’s house she wanted me to make arrangements to go to the bank with her this coming week to help her check on her safety deposit box. She likes to check on it every few months; I guess she’s afraid that the contents really are not all that safe! Over the years she has put a lot of gold coins and gold bullion in her safe deposit box.
She has always been a firm believer that gold and bullion is a good way to invest money. She’s always been nervous about investing money in the stock market – she thinks it is so volatile! She likes to tell me about the day that her father gave her a birthday present of her very first Krugerand! She still has that gold coin in a special cloth bag in the safe deposit box!
I keep asking her what she is going to do with all of that gold, and she tells me she is saving it for her old age. At sixty years old, I have to wonder how much longer she is going to wait! Maybe until she is eighty?
Playing the piano
Mom has asked me to start playing the piano more when I come to visit her on the weekends. I haven’t played it for her in years! I’ve been looking around the house for some sheet music so I can play for her, but I can’t seem to find any! I was really surprised about that because there used to be quite a bit of it stored in the piano bench! Well, anyway now I have to come up with some sheet music to play some songs for her.
New apartment
My sister is in the process of moving to a different apartment complex. I’d really like to give her a housewarming (or should I say apartment warming?) gift for her new place, but she already has everything she needs to furnish her new place. So I was thinking that one thing that she could use without causing problems like “where do I put that” would be some new address labels with her new address on it! So I think that I’ll order some new address labels for her and include a roll of postage stamps as a small “happy new apartment” gift!
Funny dog costumes
My sister was telling me that she saw some really funny dog costumes on the Internet this morning. She was very tempted to buy one for her dog, but she couldn’t decide which one would be the best one to get! One of the things that she’s worried about is spending a lot of money on something that the dog won’t tolerate wearing. I was looking at the website she told me about and I saw some really great dog costumes! My favorite costume was the “biker dog” costume, where the dog was wearing a biker hat and jacket. I don’t understand their choice of dog wearing the costume, though; I think they used a weimeraner and I think that they should have put it on a bull dog.
So many more commercials about getting loans
There sure have been a lot of commercials on television recently about the financial life of the consumer. So many commercials are about protecting your credit rating; and others are about getting fast loans to help the consumer make ends meet.
