My niece’s new business
My sister was telling me that her daughter Laura has decided to start her own business. She wants to become a Personal Chef! She thinks that there is a strong target market for that in the area where she lives. I had never heard of a personal chef before, but when it was explained to me what a personal chef does, I had to agree that Laura just MIGHT be able to get that business off the ground. One of the first things that Laura is going to be doing to help promote her business is to get custom business cards to be passing out to her friends and neighbors. I told her that if she wanted to give me a handful of cards I’d pass them around too! I hope she does a great business!
Autumn equinox
Last night on the news I was interested to hear the weatherman talking about how today is the autumn equinox. Apparently it is at 5:18pm. But then he went on to explain that although that is the autumn equinox, the daylight hours will not be equal to the night hours! He said that the equal hours will happen a few days later. I thought that the equinox was supposed to mean that the day and night hours were exactly equal! So I don’t understand how today could be the equinox, but the equal hours will not happen for a few days!
Planning for the holidays
One of the topics of conversation at dinner last night was about getting ready for the holidays. We agreed that the family dinners will be at my sister’s house this year. I was glad of that, it takes me right off the hook! My mother asked me to order some photo holiday cards for her to send out to her friends. She wants to include a photo of the front of her house that we took last winter when we decorated it with Christmas wreaths and there was a blanket of snow covering the yard. We all thought that was a terrific idea! So I’ll be looking around at holiday card options to order for her pretty soon.
Out for dinner
Last night I went out to dinner with my folks to a local steak house. We hadn’t been there in a very long time; it’s rather out of the way for us and we’ve gotten into the habit of going to other places because they were closer and more convenient. Well, we had heard that the restaurant had been struggling and might be forced to close and we thought we’d go and give them some of our business. It’s been in business for over 50 years, and is a local landmark and I’d hate to see it close because the big chain restaurants were giving it so much heavy competition.
So we went there and saw that the restaurant was still nice and clean and the menu had a good variety. Most of us ordered some form of steak (after all it IS a steakhouse) and the cuts of meat were HUGE! And cooked to perfection! No one left hungry, and we agreed that we need to eat there again soon! Looks like we just might have a new favorite restaurant!
Television options
I’m a member of a Internet community group through yahoo, and we discuss just about everything you can imagine that effects our local lives – both public and private. One of the things that I like about it is that we try to help each other with good advice, as well as share our experiences, both good and bad about companies and products.
One of the more recent conversations has been about television options in our area. I was surprised to learn that some members of the community have had Direct TV as the only available option to them. I thought for certain that DirectTV would be competing with other satellite providers as well as cable. There are a lot of people in this community that do endorse the Directv service, citing their sports channels as being extensive.
