Food and Family
Tonight will be the biggest spread of great home cooked food of the year. My folks love Thanksgiving and take it very seriously. We are all expected to be at their hosue for dinner tonight, no later than 5:00. They would prefer that we arrived around noon, but if you expect to be a member of this family you had better not miss dinner at 5:00.
My dad will cook a whole turkey in the deep fat fryer and my mom and two sisters spend the entire day in the kitchen cooking the rest of the food. It’s a huge feast and we eat for hours.
Great Show
Came across a great new show called “Sons of Anarchy.” It’s on the FX channel Wednesday nights. Just happened across it while channel surfing. Turns out I had missed a couple of the first shows, so I clicked out to Comcast’s “On Demand” and was able to watch the series from the first episode forward.
The show is about a motorcycle club in California and their personal relationships. They are B-list and C-list actors, and the writing is a little too “Hollywood” to be real, but it’s put together well. I like it and hope it catches on with enough viewers to make a second run.
President Elect Barack Obama
Now that the dust has settled from election day, the country is adjusting to the idea of having our next President be a Democrat. Unfortunately, a whole lot of people are obsessing with the idea that the man is black. I don’t want to talk politics here on my here very much, but I will take a stand on this particular issue. I think anyone who voted for Obama or against Obama strictly for the only reason that he is black – all ya’ll are racists. Period. And you need serious help with that problem, people.
I have to imagine what the election results would have been if the color of the skin of these two men was reversed? What if McCain was black and Obama was white? I think we would have had a totally different election.
This tells me that this country continues to have some deep seated, serious issues with race. And I’m not talking about just white people having the issues. And we need to bring this out in the open and deal with it.
