Online shopping is a savior…

This is a guest post by my friend Sandy Felker

My ex boyfriend was never good about planning. He wasn’t good about anything really, but planning and letting me know virtually anything within a reasonable amount of time was not one of his stronger traits.

One Friday I was told that his aunt was getting married. Great, right? Well, it turns out she’d been planning the wedding for about 4 months and he was just getting around to telling me. Oh, and it was going to be black tie so I had to dress super formal. Like, more formal than anything in my closet. Great, right? Oh, and by the way, the wedding is next Saturday.

This is where I freak out.

I had a 50 hour work week coming up at a public affairs office I was working for. I had 2 freelance deadlines coming up in the middle of the week. I had a 45 minute commute to work and no time to even sit around, let alone shop for a formal dress. Thankfully my day job was equipped with wildblue satellite internet and a generous lunch period, so I spent one of my lunch hours shopping for a formal dress.

I flipped between screens of Macy’s, Nordstrom and Neiman Marcus and finally found a sleek, sassy and formal dress that would be perfect for the wedding. Thankfully I could choose two-day shipping (for a not-so-generous fee) so I could hurry it over to Grandma’s house in the event it needed some alterations.

Thankfully the dress fit like a glove, the wedding went well, and my boyfriend managed to get us there without putting me into another panic. Most importantly, I looked fabulous.

Alice

I took the afternoon off and took my two nieces to the movies to see the new Alice in Wonderland movie. They enjoyed it, I though it was OK, but nothing to brag about. Johnny Depp does a wonderful job, as always, but there just seemed to be something missing that I just can’t put my finger on.

I’m glad that they enjoyed it and that we got to spend the afternoon together. After the movies I took them to the Burger Kind that has the kids playground inside, which let them burn off some of that energy that most kids are blessed with!

I thought it was only country!

I decided to do some youtube searches for line dancing and found quite a few videos on it. I was surprised to see several videos that showed line dancing to songs that aren’t country! I only watched a few, but I particularly enjoyed this one. Maybe I will take some classes after all!

Line Dancing

Sue wants me to sign up for line dancing classes with her.  We’ve gone to a couple of pubs where country music was playing and folks were line dancing to the music.  She wanted me to get and dance with her, but I really didn’t feel comfortable about that.  I rather feel like I have two left feet!  But Sue has been rather persistent, and she found a place where we can go for hardly any money to take classes.  I have to say it looked like fun, so I think I’ll humor her and sign up for the classes.  After all, I’ve heard women LOVE men who can dance!

A kinder, gentler, marketplace

My friend Tiffany tells me that she has been searching for places on the Internet where she can buy her favorite eco-friendly products, such as Molton Brown and Kai Body.  To be perfectly honest I haven’t paid much attention to the names of women’s cosmetics products, and I never gave much thought as to how they are created.  But Tiffany took a college course where she learned a lot about how many of the cosmetic products on the market have been tested on animals in a cruel way, and that bothered her.  So she started a campaign to try to buy products that are not only environmentally friendly, but cruelty-free too.

So this search has led her to the Internet, where she has found a website called beautysak.com that sells a lot of the products that she is interested in. She’s found something on the site called Liquid Keratin that she’s interested in trying on her hair. The Keratin Complex that they sell supposedly helps control frizzy hair. I was looking at the before and after pictures and I have to wonder about the after pictures; I notice that they are careful to say that the after pictures are of “air dried” hair. I wonder what the pictures would look like if the hair had been blown dry?
