Find repairs anywhere you need them

One of the things that I like the most about the Internet is how much easier it is to find businesses than it used to be.  Last night Sandy called me from Los Angeles.  She was there on a business trip and the head gasket on her Ford Explorer started to leak a lot of oil.  She wasn’t sure if she was going to need to take it into a Los Angeles auto repair shop and have it fixed immediately or if she was going to be able to keep driving it for a couple of months.

I told her that I’d help her find a local repair shop and they could advise her as to her best course of action.  I used the repairpal.com website to locate a place, and Sandy took her car there.  They told her that the leak wasn’t serious and that she could easily drive it back home and get it fixed back here.  That was a big relief!  There’s nothing worse than having to deal with major car issues while out of town on a business trip!

Don’t get caught

One of the saddest things that can happen to a person is to get into a car accident and be injured.  What makes matters worse is if the parties involved don’t have good car insurance to help with the expenses for the repairs to the cars involved. And worse still, is if their auto insurance limits are too low to actually cover the medical expenses.

My poor uncle was involved in an accident where the accident was not his fault, but the lady who caused the accident had such cheap car insurance with low limits that they won’t even cover a quarter of his medical bills! People who under-insure their vehicles frustrate me!  Even though my uncle has under-insurance on his own policy, even that is not enough to cover his medical bills.  It has been over two years since the accident and the insurance companies still haven’t settled the case.  My poor uncle is unable to work and in jeopardy of losing everything he ever worked for because somebody didn’t bother to get good insurance on their car.

Kero sun

I have a kero sun K1 heater that I use in my garage to warm it up when I’m working on my cars and trucks. I really am glad that I have it – it has seen a lot of use! But I got a bad can of K1 the other day and it is nasty! I haven’t quite figured out what I’m going to do with it. The machine smokes something awful now! I’m going to have to clean it somehow and dump out the bad K1 and replace it with good K1. This is a major annoyance – I’d like to think that when I buy K1 that it will be good quality!

Cars and trucks

I found that wiki cars has quite a lot of interesting things to say about the histories of the different automobile companies.  If the history of cars should interest you, check it out!  A very interesting read

I recently learned that one of the reasons that Japanese cars such as the mazda, toyota and subaru legacy have the reputation for lasting a long time is because the cars were engineered to have fewer moving parts.  Fewer moving parts means less wear and tear, and fewer things to break down!  Add to that the fact that they tend to be made of more lightweight materials which improves fuel efficiency, and the advantage that the countries have in labor costs and export/import tariffs and there is little wonder why the American vehicles such as the chevrolet silverado (which is a fine American truck) are struggling hard to compete.
