The rumors go around
Have you noticed how many emails you get from well-meaning friends and family where they are passing along some great news, gossip, or tidbit that they simply got from a friend of theirs and the just forwarded on to you? Most of the emails start out with “I checked this out and it’s true.” I get at least one of these each week. I usually go to the snopes.com website to check out whether or not it is true, and about 90% of the time, it is NOT true. So instead of forwarding it along, I reply to the person who sent it to me that I checked with snopes and it is false.
Well, today I got an email about a “recent news article” about a rescued whale thanking its rescuers. It was truly an amazing story, and I checked it out on snopes. Well, to my great surprise, it was true! But what I thought was so funny was that the “recent news article” was from December 2005 – more than four years ago! So I wonder how long this story has been going around the Internet email lists, how many times around the world it has travelled!
Tragedy strikes the Olympics
What horrible news I heard when I turned on the television last night to watch the Olympics opening ceremony! The accidental death of the athlete in the luge event from Georgia! I couldn’t believe my ears! This morning I was reading on line that the officials say it was human error, but I really find that hard to believe. From the sounds of the article I think that some extra safety measures could have been taken. What a shame that they weren’t taken! I hope that this is the only tragedy of the games; the world doesn’t need any more tragedies right now!
How About Those Saints!
Sunday night’s Super Bowl was one heck of a good game, it kept us all on the edge of our seats and was action packed and fun filled along with the commercials that the Super Bowl is so well known for. I really enjoyed watching the half time show with The Who playing many of their hits that they have become so well known for through out the years.
The Saints earned their victory and I’m glad that they took the win home back to New Orleans. An area that is still struggling daily since they were devastated by Mother Nature years ago.
Autumn equinox
Last night on the news I was interested to hear the weatherman talking about how today is the autumn equinox. Apparently it is at 5:18pm. But then he went on to explain that although that is the autumn equinox, the daylight hours will not be equal to the night hours! He said that the equal hours will happen a few days later. I thought that the equinox was supposed to mean that the day and night hours were exactly equal! So I don’t understand how today could be the equinox, but the equal hours will not happen for a few days!
Gas Going Up Again
It was awful when we had to endure those 3 and 4 dollar gas prices last year. I was really relieved to see them going down for awhile to tolerable levels.
Over the past two weeks the prices at the pump are on the rise again. I know its Summer and more people are on the roads for vacations and such but the corporate oil companies need to give their country a break.
If they would leave gas prices alone for awhile they could help the economy because more people would be willing to buy their products and it would spur the economy on to more positive territory. People wouldn’t be afraid to get out and look for jobs or go on longer vacations if they weren’t afraid of not having enough funds to cover the cost of gasoline.
Maybe if we could get more people to go mass transit it would send a message to the oil companies that the American people would like them to sit up and listen. Help with the situation rather than taking money out of the pockets of people that deserve it.
