How About Those Saints!

Sunday night’s Super Bowl was one heck of a good game, it kept us all on the edge of our seats and was action packed and fun filled along with the commercials that the Super Bowl is so well known for. I really enjoyed watching the half time show with The Who playing many of their hits that they have become so well known for through out the years.

The Saints earned their victory and I’m glad that they took the win home back to New Orleans. An area that is still struggling daily since they were devastated by Mother Nature years ago.

Storm Chasers

The risk these guys took was huge. They are lucky they were not killed. Goes to show there are rednecks in more than just the Southern states.

Dealing With Too Much Rain

Too much rain means more than floods and damp basements. Too much water breeds fungus, mold, mildew, rot, bad odors and mosquitoes.

As a reminder, with all the rain lately, it would be wise for everyone to keep a lid on any trash receptacle to help keep odors contained, as well as keeping the wild critters from getting into it and making a mess.

Also, as a reminder, if anyone finds standing water in old tires or buckets or anything else lying around, it should be dumped out to reduce mosquitoes from multiplying.   It cuts down on mosquito-spread viruses, such as West Nile.

There is a certainty out there.  Good Old Mother Nature has a mind of her own.  She can provide us with many wonderful things but for goodness sakes, do not take Her for granted.  She can also show no mercy when necessary.  What is that old saying?  “Hell has no fury as a woman scorned.”   Believe it or not!

Daily Scents!

Some mornings after an overnight rain I can walk out and smell the freshness in the air.  Of course, it only seems fresh until the sun comes up and heats up those daily mixtures of pavement, and other things into the humidity of the day.

This past week we have had several strong bouts of rain.  One morning I walked out and caught a drift of Honey-Suckle bloom in the air.  It sets off a sense of serenity much as Spring Lilac bushes do when they are in bloom.  If that’s what heaven is like, I can’t wait to get there.

On the other hand, I have to pass the dumpster and on occasion there is a foul stench irking from it that is not so pleasant. There have also been instances where I have smelled something in the neighborhood that almost smelled like almost dead Daffodils that have not been cut down for the season and lost their sweet smell.  That’s not pleasant at all.  They really stink.

Wild Fires

The past couple of weeks have been very dangerous for ranchers in Texas and Oklahoma. Not only have we had a lot of storms with high winds and tornadoes, but we have had a lot of wild fires break out. The fires are very serious and can get out of hand very quickly. When you are told you have to evacuate, you don’t have much time to grab a duffel bag and load up your horses to get them hauled to a safe place. You drive off hoping that the house and all your stuff is still there when you come back.
