Remote control club
I read in the local newspaper that a new club is forming for remote control airplane enthusiasts. Apparently they have managed to arrange for a piece of land to use for their landing strip. I’ve always been interested in remote control aircraft: I think I’ll try to hook up with these guys! I just wish I could remember where and when I read that article. Maybe I’ll have to Google it. I think it sounds like a lot of fun!
Steve Nash and the Phoenix Suns
This is a guest posting by Sam Struthers
Spring is here and I’m really excited to get back to some basketball and sitting around a big screen TV with all my best friends watching ESPN on my satellite. We always celebrate the big games with cold beers, pizza, wings, and lots of excitement. I’m from Phoenix and consequently, my favorite team is the Phoenix Suns. Steve Nash has got to be my favorite player. He averages almost 18 points per game. I love watching Steve Nash take it to the basket on satelitte tv HD channels. Nothing beats that except being at the game. The Suns beat the Los Angeles Lakers just last night by 9 points. I played basketball a little bit in high school, but even more than playing I love to watch the professionals show us all how it’s done. Maybe if I kept playing, I could have been the next Steve Nash. Either way, I’m glad I’ve got a great team to watch and great friends to watch it with. I’ll be waiting anxiously for our next get together and the next big game. Go Suns!
Super Bowl Replay
Written for me by my friend Ned Thoms while I was on vacation!
I’m one of those guys that live for the NFL. I pay attention to every off-season transaction, player update, and injury report that hits the wire. When spring and summer are around, I feel like a hibernating bear, sleeping and dreaming of coming back out of my cave so I can feast. In my case, it isn’t prey, though. It’s football games. Luckily, I have direct tv packages, so I’m able to watch whatever game I want. Since it’s the off-season, there aren’t any live games to watch. However, I can still watch replays on NFL Network.
The NFL Network is like a drug that I abuse to no end. But it’s a good, natural high. The other night they had a replay of the 2007 Super Bowl of the Giants versus the Patriots. This game was insane the first time I watched it. And it was even more insane this time. It’s kind of like watching a movie for the second time. You pick up on so many little things that you didn’t notice the first time. I think it’s because the first time you watch something, you’re more focus on being entertained. The second time you watch something, you’re simply more focused.
Anyway, the game started out like any other for that season – with the Patriots winning. In case you forgot, the Patriots were undefeated that year. If they won the Super Bowl, they would become only the second team ever to go undefeated for an entire season. The other team was the 72 Dolphins, but they played fewer games in those days.
I could go on and on and give details about the game, but it comes down to that one play. You know the play I’m talking about. I’m talking about the 4th and long with barely any time left on the clock. If the Giants don’t convert, the game is over. Eli Manning almost gets sacked, gets away, almost gets sacked again, gets away again, steps up, chucks the ball 40 years through the air, and David Tyree barely catches the ball with his fingertips against his helmet. The very next play, Plaxico Burress catches a fade for a Touchdown on the left side. Amazing!
The best part about this was Bill Belichick’s reaction. He was so devastated that despite there still being two seconds left on the clock, he sent his team into the locker room. Way to fight to the final second, Bill!
Good music
I’ve been thinking about saving up to buy some Houston Rodeo concert tickets for next year’s rodeo. I’ve always enjoyed going to rodeos, and since this one is nearby it would be a great time! I wanted to go this year, but my schedule wouldn’t allow it, what with Mom’s poor health occupying so much of our time lately!
I’ve always enjoyed watching the bull riding competition. I’ve always enjoyed watching the rode clowns doing their work – those guys are fantastic at what they do. So far I’ve never seen anyone be injured by a bull during the competitions. I’m sure that is due to the skills and efforts of the rodeo clowns that make their job look like a lot of fun!
One of the great things about the Houston Rodeo is that in addition to having the Rodeo competitions during the day, you can attend concerts afterwards. So you can really make a whole day of going to the Rodeo if you choose to do that! I’m sure that I’d have to make sure to take the next day off of work as well, to recover from the full and eventful day at the show!
I don’t know who will be performing at the concerts next year, but looking at this year’s schedule I’m sure that there will be plenty of great stars performing!
Myrtle Beach, Fun For All
Wouldn’t it be great to take my tax refund and take off and spend some time at one of the awesome Oceanfront Myrtle Beach Resorts that we all hear so much about. When you Google “Oceanfront Myrtle Beach Resort” you get an eye full that is for sure. But the one that really impresses me is The Avista Resort which is located in the North Myrtle Beach area and has everything one could want for a great time.
If you are into playing golf this Myrtle Beach Resort has plenty to take care of those needs. They have a very user friendly website that makes planning an event like this a much easier task. I like easy. Apparently Myrtle Beach attracts over 13 million visitors annually and has something for everyone.
Who knows, I still haven’t had my taxes done. I know, April 15th is right around the corner. I tend to wait for the last minute in most things in this life, my bad. I have a few weeks left, but the weather has been so great I find myself distracted with outside chores and fun. But I can tell you this, if I m pleasantly surprised with what H & R Block has to say I’ll be check online to see what Myrtle Beach Resorts I can hook up with.
